Move-In for Undergraduate and Graduate Residence Halls in University Housing

Each fall, University Housing staff welcome approximately 9,000 returning residents and new first year students. The move-in process is a complex coordination between a team of student volunteers called Illini Guides, University Housing staff, the cities of Urbana and Champaign and multiple campus units. The two main move-in days are Tuesday for residents moving into a Living-Learning Community and Thursday for all other residents. On Tuesday and Thursday of move-in week, Illini Guide student volunteers assist residents and families to make the official residence hall move-in a smooth process. Some residents choose to pay a fee to arrival as early as Sunday, which stretches move-in to a full week as illustrated below. The Housing contract begins Thursday of move-in week each year.
